2 Wine of the Month: 2018 Reserve Red - Mount Ida Reserve

For our November Wine of the Month, we are featuring our 2018 High Ridge Reserve Red. Complex and delicious, our Meritage-style blend is the perfect addition to any Thanksgiving feast!

Reserve Red

As you learned in our March wine of the month posting, Meritage wines must contain at least two of the traditional Bordeaux or “Noble” grapes. These include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbed, Petit Verdot, St. Macaire, Gros Verdot, and Carmenère; all bold and robust fruit. These grapes provide a complex and varied palate entirely dependent of the blend. With flavors ranging from ripe, dark fruit to earthy tobacco and leather, to rich oaky vanilla, the wide range of notes provides a perfect companion to the myriad of dishes on your Thanksgiving table!

Our 2018 vintage is a blend of Merlot, Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. As many of you may know, 2018 was a challenging year for red wine in Virginia; but by utilizing the best varietals our vineyard had to offer we were able to produce a delightful Meritage-style blend. Aged in half new and half neutral French oak, this vintage is a slightly lighter iteration of our Reserve Red compared to vintages past. Rich on the nose with aromas of tobacco and leather and boasting earthy notes and flavors of sour cherry, underripe berry and lively acidity. This beauty is perfect to open this Thanksgiving and will also only grow in depth of flavor for Thanksgivings to come (and with our Wine of the Month case discount, what better chance to snag a case and start a new Thanksgiving wine tradition)!
