Mount Ida Reserve is welcoming harvest season with open arms. We kicked off our harvest with our Merlot grape, a dark blue-colored grape used as both a blending grape and for a varietal. Virginia had a warmer spring this year causing grapes to be ready slightly ahead of schedule. Every type of grape is different and matures on it’s own schedule. Merlot was our first grape ready for harvest and matures about two weeks earlier than Cabernet Franc, which will be our next harvest. Our merlot will be a component of the Moonlight Red and our Reserve Red wines featured in our tasting room (coming soon!)
