To kick off our “Meet the Team” blog series we are starting off with our Executive Chef, Nathan Hatfield! Nathan and his wife, Margaret (who we will introduce next!), just moved to Charlottesville from the DC area. He joined our team this February. He is currently working hard to put together a delicious pairing menu.
Where are you from?
Originally from Fort Worth, TX.
What is your educational background?
I went to college in Utah for Biology and Chemistry. Culinary training received the hard way.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I like to spend time with our dogs, go hiking, listening to music, and trying new restaurants/bars to keep up with the latest goings on in the industry.
How did you get in to the industry?
I started in the restaurant industry in college as a dishwasher and moved up through the ranks and eventually fell in love with it and decided that cooking professionally was something I wanted to do with my life.
What personal goals do you have for The Tasting Room & Taphouse?
I’m excited about introducing my food to the community and in turn becoming a part of that community. Looking forward to building a space that locals want to frequent as well.
What is your favorite drink at the moment?
My favorite drink at the moment…any beer from Commonwealth Brewing or Mount Ida’s blanc de blanc sparkling wine.
What is your favorite thing to do in Charlottesville on a day off?
Since my wife and I just recently moved here from the DC area I am mostly just exploring my new neighborhood/city. Looking forward to warmer weather to start hiking, biking, and generally being outside!
